![]() I went pretty much vintage after that and after a small fling with a DW set in the late 90's, I was swayed back to Ludwig as I saw a band play where the drummer was using a champagne classic maple set. It was WMP and I had major problems with the wrap. I bought my first new Ludwig set in the summer of 1990 and while it was actually a very nice sounding set, lets just say that it had quality issues. ![]() All of my heros including my drum teacher played Ludwig and the look of the lugs and the sound of them has always attracted me. I started out on a 70's Gretsch set that I got when I was 13 and still have but the snare drum that came with them is a supra from 1966. I have been a Ludwig guy most of my life. I'm pretty excited! If I could get a 17" giant beat crash and a set of 14" GB hats I would be totally set! The set will be 22,13,14,16 now with matching eight lug snare and canister all with B/O badges. Should be about a six week wait I'm told and I'm curious what the serial number will be. I had to make sure I ordered champagne sparkle though as Ludwig now offers Shampayne sparkle in addition to Champagne sparkle. I have asked several dealers though and I'm pretty confident that I will be fine. My biggest fear is that somehow the shade of champagne sparkle has changed over three years and the floor tom won't match. I could have opted to not get the canister throne but I'm glad I did as I got the last one Ludwig ever made. I probably should have just sucked it up in the beggining and ordered it with the set but at the time I was already spending a hefty amount and thought it better not to. I actuallt just finally placed the order yesterday for a matching 14x14 to round off the set. That is cool! The numbers must flip at some point I would think. The 12/14/16/22 sizes are nice middle-of-the-road dimensions that aren't too big or too small and seem to fit any situation I'm likely to find myself in. But, that's not to say there aren't some really beautiful acrylic kits out there that are great for sure (Pearl, Crush, etc), I just really wanted an authentic Vista for me personally. There really is something special about a Vistalite (to me) that has a type of "mojo" (for lack of a better term), that no other acrylic kit on the market seems to have. My Mapex kit came w/a similar type stand that holds the rack tom & a cymbal, so I'm used to it to a degree. (Had a close call or 2 w/the snare stand but nothing major). Plus, much less chance of an accidental tip-over at a gig. Just got it installed a few days ago and while I still need to set the whole kit up to get everything dialed in just right, the tom, while sounding just fine on the snare stand, sounds amazing on it's new mount. Ordered a DW single-tom stand that has a nice cymbal holder on the opposite side (nice touch DW), so I don't need to bring a separate stand for my left-side crash. But recently I decided to go ahead and order a Vibra-band & classic mount to make things a lot more secure. ![]() ![]() In fact, when I ordered the kit, I wanted a virgin kick and no mount on the 12" rack. They've been out of "rotation" recently, but before that I'd been gigging them pretty heavily and they always delivered the goods. Anyway.yes! The kit is killer all the way around and is holding up perfectly. The set will definately stay together under my watch! I have grown quite fond of it as I have now done prob more than 300 gigs on it!Ĭlick to expand.Sorry, for the delay-missed your question somehow. BTW the throne is also the last one Ludwig made so that's cool too! My numbers go:Īnyone else have a new set like this that is in sequential order? I think this is pretty cool with the dates and serials like this. The only piece with a non sequential number is the canister throne and that is because it was made later as I ordered everything together but it took longer for the throne. I never asked them to do that and I have heard that people have asked and been shot down. My set is kind of unique in the fact that they are all date stamped May 1 2012(which is probably common as far as building the drums goes) but not only that, all of my blue olive badges are in number sequence. I should have done this a while ago but I'm glad I did it now. ![]() I was just doing some routine maintenence on my classic maple set yester day and finally wrote down my serial numbers to have in case of theft. ![]()
